About Me

My Story

I was born and raised in Odessa under the most beautiful sunsets that Texas has to offer. Upon graduating high school, I packed my trumpet and moved to Denton to study music education at the University of North Texas. I would eventually change my major to music with a minor in anthropology after discovering a passion for understanding the human experience.

My library adventure began in spring of 2006 when I was hired as a student assistant in the UNT Music Library. I would spend the next 5 years calling this library my home. Upon the recommendation of a trusted supervisor and mentor, I enrolled in graduate school to pursue a degree in library science. In 2013, I accepted the User Experience Librarian position at SMU. In this role, I supported the first year experience, taught information literacy sessions, provided research support, and created a better library experience for students. I would later take on additional responsibilities such as marketing and collaborating with the good people in the Master of Arts in Design & Innovation program. In 2019, I was promoted to the Director of Strategic Initiatives role and from 2020-2022, I also served as the SMU Libraries diversity officer.

My interest in data science began during my time as a user experience librarian. Our quantitative and qualitative data tells us so much about the people who use the library and how they use it. Therefore, I recognized that truly understanding what our data is telling us was integral for my strategy role. In the fall of 2019, I enrolled in master of science in data science program at SMU and graduated in 2022.

I am grateful for the varied experiences I’ve had along my journey. On the outside, they may all appear unrelated. But, at the root of each is the common thread of understanding people and organizations and creating positive experiences to help them accomplish their goals. Whether it’s through music, data, DEI, or research, the work I find most meaningful is the work that supports and inspires others.
